Director Margaret McManus moved to Hilton Head Island in 2006 from McLean Virginia. She was born in North Carolina and grew up in south Texas. She is a graduate of The American University School of International Service in Washington D.C. with a degree in International Relations. She spent her career with the Central Intelligence Agency as an Analyst focusing on transnational and economic issues. Her work involved extensive travel world- wide, fueling a life long love of travel and exploration of different cultures. Prior to her career, she lived in the Philippines for two years.
The speakers and programs of the World Affairs Council have expanded her interest in foreign relations and the study of global issues. She has served as a WAC volunteer and participated in the study groups the Council offers. Additionally, she has been involved in her neighborhood community, serving as Secretary of the Homeowners association. She has volunteered as a docent for the Coastal Discovery Museum and is serving on the Board of Women in Philanthropy. She enjoys the cultural activities the community offers as well as travel, reading and sailing.
