Author and acclaimed foreign correspondent Robin Wright’s latest book, Rock the Casbah, chronicles how a new order is being shaped by youth inspired revolts in the Middle East.
Speaker Biography
Robin Wright, acclaimed foreign correspondent, author and television commentator, has covered the Middle East for four decades and reported from more than a 140 countries.
The American Academy of Diplomacy named Robin Wright Journalist of the Year in 2004. Covering a dozen wars and several revolutions for the Washington Post, the Los Angeles Times, the Sunday Times of London, CBS News and The Christian Science Monitor, Ms. Wright received many awards, among them the UN Correspondents Gold Medal, the National Magazine Award and the Overseas Press Club Award.
Since the publication of Sacred Rage: The Crusade of Modern Islam, Ms. Wright’s first book on the Middle East, she has witnessed and written a number of books about extremism and unrest in the Middle East.
As a distinguished scholar at the Woodrow Wilson Center’s project “The Future of the Islamic World”, Ms. Wright wrote Rock the Casbah: Rage and Rebellion Aross the Islamic World (July 2011). The book chronicles the new order being shaped by youth inspired revolts currently toppling leaders and repudiating al Queda. A review has recently appeared in the N.Y. Times. “The Struggle Within Islam”, an adaptation from Rock the Casbah has appeared in the September edition of the Smithsonian Magazine.
Ms. Wright most recently covered U.S. foreign policy for the Washington Post. She received her M.A. and B.A. from the University of Michigan.
