Dr. James M. Ludes, Executive Director of the Pell Center for International Relations and Public Policy at Salve Regina University in Newport, RI., will explore the use of power and how to determine appropriate responses to complex global issues today.
Speaker Biography:
Dr. James M. Ludes (Jim) is the Executive Director of the Pell Center for International Relations and Public Policy at Salve Regina University in Newport, RI. From July 2006 to August 2011, Dr. Ludes was the Executive Director of the American Security Project (ASP), a think-tank in Washington, DC.
Dr. Ludes is editor of Iraq Uncensored: Perspectives (2010) a publishing initiative by the bipartisan American Security Project. He is co-editor of two previous books: Attacking Terrorism (2004) and Twenty-First Century Proliferation (2001) as well as numerous journal articles.
Prior to his work in the Senate as legislative assistant to Senator John Kerry, Dr. Ludes was Editor-in-Chief of National Security Studies Quarterly, a defense and national security journal.
Dr. Ludes worked on President-elect Obama’s Transition Team to identify critical issues inside the Department of Defense to be addressed in the new administration and to work toward confirmation of nominees to fill operational positions.
A native of Manchester, CT, Dr. Ludes received his bachelor’s degree in history and modern languages from Providence College in 1993. He earned his Ph.D. in history from Georgetown University. He is a term member of the Council on Foreign Relations.
