The World Affairs Council of Hilton Head (WACHH) in partnership with the Beaufort County School District is presenting the first Academic WorldQuest (AWQ) Competition to be held in this region on March 3, 2012, from 9:00 AM – Noon, at Hilton Head Island High School’s auxiliary gym.
Members of the WACHH, parents of participating students, and all County residents who wish to support educational programs designed to prepare the citizens of tomorrow for global leadership are invited to attend.
Nine teams of four students, from each of five Beaufort County high schools, (Whale Branch, Battery Creek, Beaufort, Bluffton and Hilton Head Island) will be competing in the national World Affairs Councils of America (WACA) program.
Students will be asked to respond to multiple choice questions on international affairs, geography, history and culture. The audience may also view the questions, thus testing themselves, just as the students are seeing the questions and responding.
Kent Harrington, former president of the World Affairs Council of Hilton Head, will moderate the competition. The winning team and the two runners-up will be awarded prizes related to their educational experience.
This year, the AWQ competition is a pilot program. Next year, WACHH and the Beaufort County School District plan to sponsor the winning team’s participation in the national competition in Washington, DC.
Come join us to watch these outstanding young people compete!
