2020 Community Forum (past events)

Part of the WACHH mission is to reach beyond the Council’s membership to the wider community to provide information on national issues affairs and its effect on the community. The presentations focus on a wide variety of topics and are given by Council members,  local and regional experts. The meetings are held mid-month in June, July, and August, and they are open to the public and free of charge.

July Speaker

July 15: Ashley Jenkins, Beaufort County Recycling Coordinator

Ashley Jenkins will give us an overview of recycling in Beaufort County, what drives the rules for our county and how we can develop partnerships to make our County more environmentally friendly.  Ashley will be talking about the impact on the South Carolina economy and what businesses have been created here as a result of recycling.  Watch this presentation on YouTube

August 19: Richard Thomas, Author of Backwater Frontier: Beaufort Country, SC at the Forefront of American History

Richard Thomas focuses his original perspective on the history of the Southeastern coastline.  His stories and their unmistakable implications chronicle 450 years of ground breaking initiative taken in the region, leaving the reader with no doubt as to the extraordinary role Beaufort County has played in the evolution of the American character and culture. September 16: George Kanuck, co-chair of the Low Country Immigration Coalition

Immigration.  A big topic that touches us all.  George Kanuck, co-chair of the Low Country Immigration Coalition, will be discussing both legal and undocumented aspects of immigration and its impact on Beaufort County, what we should understand about DACA and what current comprehensive legislation is trying to solve.
