Community Global forum

Part of the WACHH mission is to reach beyond the Council’s membership to the wider community to provide information on national issues affairs and its effect on the community. Community Global Forum presentations focus on a wide variety of topics and are given by Council members,  local and regional experts. 

This year, the Community Global Forum presentations will be available to the public free of charge.  Each presentation will consist of a 40 minute talk followed by a 20 minute Q & A period. Please register in advance to receive reminders and additional information in advance of each talk.

Dr. Todd Wright -The Future of Nuclear Energy

Fellowship Hall, First Presbyterian Church, 540 William Hilton Parkway, Hilton Head

Dr. Wright has experience in leading and managing safe nuclear operations for both U.S. Department of Energy and U.K. Nuclear Decommissioning Authority (NDA) programs thru holding numerous positions with increasing responsibility both in the U.S. and U.K. Also served at DOE’s Savanah River Site as Director at the Savannah River National Laboratory, successfully transitioning from a site-centered focused Laboratory to a national research program with a diverse portfolio of new customers.

Dr. Larry Valero - Cyber Threats and the Evolution of Cyberwarfare: Russia and China as Case Studies

Dr. Larry Valero (Ph.D. Cambridge, M.A. King's College London, B.A. UCLA) is the Department Head and Associate Professor of Intelligence and Security Studies at The Citadel - The Military College of South Carolina. He served as the President of the International Association for Intelligence Education from 2014-2019. Dr. Valero’s research and teaching interests focus upon U.S. intelligence and national security, strategy, and modern warfare. Dr. Valero has published articles in Cryptologic Quarterly, the International Journal of Intelligence and Counterintelligence, Intelligence and National Security, and Studies in Intelligence.

Matt Costa: Bitcoin

The only thing more contentious than politics today is Bitcoin. The media has been filled with stories about Bitcoin, Doge and other forms of cryptocurrency and the extremely high market prices they have had.  But do you really have a clue what a Bitcoin is or how it works? If you do not know much about them, don’t be embarrassed, it’s confusing and new to the mainstream. Matt Costa will cover the history of bitcoin, what is cryptocurrency and how it works, and common misconceptions.
