Mike Finnerty

Mike Finnerty Director Mike Finnerty and his wife Ethlyn moved to Hilton Head Island in 2003. Mike was born and raised in Mahopac, New York. He received his Bachelor’s Degree from Manhattan College and a Master’s from NYU.

After serving as a Helicopter Pilot in the USMC, Mike began his career in local government public health work, before moving on to State government. He held several senior executive positions in the administrations of New York Governors Hugh Carey and Mario Cuomo. He then moved on to become the Vice President of Finance and Administration at Yale University. He left Yale for the private sector, becoming a Founding Partner of Edison Schools Inc., an education reform company operating schools on behalf of public school districts. He then completed his career as President and Chief Operating Officer of Teachscape Inc. Teachscape was also an education reform company, providing Professional Development for public school teachers enhanced through the use of internet technology.

Mike has been a member of the World Affairs Council since 2010. He has been active in the Great Decisions Program and the Fall Forums.
