President’s Preview No. 10 - February 2026

18 Feb 2026 6:04 PM | Anonymous

Rich Moniuszko "The World is my country, all mankind are my brethren, and to do good is my religion."  – Thomas Paine (1737-1809)

We’ve had an exceptional run of Distinguished Speakers this year—most recently Barbara Slavin, who offered timely insights into the U.S.–Iran relationship as negotiations continue amid the threat of potential military action. This Friday, we’ll receive another important update on global affairs with “Iraq—Two Decades After the War” presented by Iraq’s former Ambassador to the United Nations.

I encourage you to bring a friend to one of our Distinguished Speaker programs. Time and again, we’ve seen that when people experience WACHH firsthand, they become excited about our mission and often choose to join. You can pre‑register guests through our website calendar or have them register on the day of the event.

This Friday, we also will kick off the “Birdies for Charity” campaign through the Heritage Classic Foundation. The Foundation provides WACHH with a 20% match for all donations made between now and the last day of the golf tournament. You can make a “per birdie” donation based on the number of birdies made throughout the tournament or simply donate a flat amount of $25 or more. We are competing with other non-profit organizations in the area in the “Birdies” program, so you will need to designate World Affairs Council Hilton Head as your preferred charity.

We also have two “Hot Topic” sessions in development:

“A Conversation on Greenland, U.S.–Danish Relations, and the Arctic” with Danish Parliament Member Aaja Chemnitz
Tuesday, February 24, 11:00 AM (via Zoom)
A Zoom link will be sent to all WACHH members shortly.

Our second Hot Topic session will be a live evening program in late March or early April, focusing on the timely issue of the Federal Reserve. More details will be announced soon.

Please continue to check our website calendar (WACHH.org) for the latest updates on upcoming events. And thank you for your ongoing support of the World Affairs Council Hilton Head. If you are a former member receiving this message, you are welcome to attend Friday’s talk on Iraq—or any of our Distinguished Speaker programs—by paying the guest fee. I hope you will re-join us.

I look forward to seeing you at one of our events.
