Blaine Lotz, President

Director Blaine Lotz was elected to the position of President of the World Affairs Council of Hilton Head on January 19, 2012.  Blaine has served on the Board of Directors for nearly three years, and contributed significantly to our Educational Outreach programs and Summer Forum programs.

Blaine retired in 1992 from the Air Force as a Colonel after 26 years of active military service. Among his awards are the Bronze Star, the Legion of Merit, and the Defense Superior Service Medal.

His subsequent civilian career, of thirteen-years in government, was spent largely in the Senior Executive Service (SES) and culminated in his appointment as Assistant to the Secretary of Defense for Intelligence Oversight by Secretary Cohen. In 2001 he was awarded the Department of Defense Medal for Distinguished Civilian Service.

At Hilton Head Island, he has been active in several community organizations: Deep Well, the Hilton Head chapter of Military Officers Association, church life leadership at the First Presbyterian Church, and a volunteer with the PGA Heritage Golf Tournament. In addition, Blaine served for three years on Sea Pines’ governing boards, helping to meet their mission of making the community a better place in which to live.

Blaine was a candidate for the Democratic nomination to the U.S. Congress from South Carolina’s Second District in 2008 and now serves as chair of the Beaufort County Democratic Party.

Blaine earned his B.A. in History from The George Washington University and a Masters in Public Administration from Auburn University. He also completed post-graduate work at Harvard University and MIT.

Blaine and his wife Lynne had been property owners on the Island for thirty years before making Hilton Head their permanent home in 2005.
