Michael Fritz

Dr. Michael Fritz is the dean emeritus and a Charles Howard Candler professor of surgery emeritus at Emory University.  Following undergraduate work at Boston University and his professional dental and research education at the University of Pennsylvania (DDS, MS, PhD), he has taught, led research and served as an administrative leader at Emory University for more than 30 years.

In addition to extensive research experience, Mike has served as a visiting professor at the University of Lund, Sweden and as a clinical professor at several US universities including the Medical College of Georgia, the University of North Carolina, the Medical University of South Carolina where he is a clinical professor today.  His research experience with NIH is extensive, as are his professional affiliations and honors.

Mike has been active in civic roles in Atlanta and more recently in Hilton Head where he has served on the board of Volunteers in Medicine, as project director for the Ronald McDonald Mobile Heath Care program in Beaufort County, on the Foundation of the Low Country Health Care Committee and as a judge in the Beaufort schools annual science fairs.   In addition, he has worked closely on health issues with the Carter Center in Atlanta.
