JENNIE JOHNSON, MEMBERSHIP COMMITTEE CHAIR

Jennie Johnson was born in the Panama Canal Zone to an Air Force pilot and a mother who was a former air traffic controller. Growing up in a military family, she lived in Japan, Paris, and several states across the country. 

Jennie’s career has bridged business, government and non-profit sectors. She was President of three companies: JMJ Partners, a business consulting firm; Liberty Insurance Services, the largest third-party administrator for life insurance companies in North America; and Pierce National Life Insurance Company. She was founding Executive Director of Liberty Fellowship, a leadership venture between the Aspen Institute and Wofford College; Executive Vice President of Royal Bank of Canada Liberty Insurance; and held executive positions in strategic planning and mergers and acquisitions with Liberty Corporation and Ashland Oil, as well as in planning for United Way.

Jennie has contributed to state and federal government initiatives. She served on Governor-elect Nikki Haley's Transition Team, helping identify candidates for cabinet appointments. She was appointed by the Obama Administration to the White House Committee on Interoperability, which developed recommendations for increasing the movement of talent among the government, business, and nonprofit sectors. Earlier, Governor Mark Sanford appointed her to the Management, Administration and Productivity Commission, which recommended more than $500 million in changes to South Carolina state government.

Jennie’s civic leadership roles included chairing the Greater Island Council of Hilton Head, South Carolina Research Authority, the Greenville Humane Society, and the Area Commission for Greenville Technical College. In addition, she served on educational boards at Wake Forest and Miami Universities and numerous nonprofit boards including the Boys & Girls Club of Hilton Head Island, Sophia Institute in Charleston, the Aspen Institute-affiliated Health Innovators Fellowship, the Peace Center for the Performing Arts, and Board of the Greenville Health System.

A graduate of Miami University with a degree in Political Science, Jennie earned a Master of Public Administration from the University of Virginia and an MBA from Wake Forest University. She was awarded the Order of the Palmetto—South Carolina’s highest civilian award – for her community service to the state.  

Jennie and her husband, Bob Peaks, moved to Hilton Head to near their children and grandchildren.
